How to: Setup Email to SMS

In SalesPartner, Email to SMS is the most reliable way to send text messages from your PC via your Android smartphone. Unlike the Android Phone running SMS Gateway option, Email to SMS settings remain the same for all networks, so you won't need to keep checking your phone's IP address.

You'll need to setup a new email address that supports POP3 mail protocol. We recommend Yahoo Mail and we'll use Yahoo Mail settings for this guide.

Create a new Ymail email account at https://login.yahoo.com/

Edit: Before you continue, You need to Allow apps that use less secure sign in in Ymail. Log into Ymail and click into your profile > Account info > Account security, and enable the option for Allow apps that use less secure sign in.

Smartphone settings:

Install SMS Gateway from the Android Play store.
Open SMS Gateway.
Open Settings.

Tick Listen for POP3 send SMS commands, and open POP3 Settings.

• POP3 server host name: pop.mail.yahoo.com
  
• POP3 server port: 995
  
• SSL: Yes - ticked
  
• Username: Yahoo email address
  
• Password: Yahoo email password
  
• Mailbox scan interval in seconds = 60
  

Tap back to the SMS Gateway home screen and press Start.

In SalesPartner, add yourself as a contact for testing, and click SMS. Tip: You can send text messages to multiple recipients via Contacts.

Compose your message.
In Send Via options select Email 2 SMS.
In Email address to use enter your Yahoo email address.
Click Send to This Contact.

Notes

Use the SalesPartner Add Opt Out Message tool to insert unsubscribe instructions. Sent messages are recorded in Contact Activity. If you are sending more than a handful of messages, enable the Randomized delay feature by entering the number of seconds so that messages are gradually trickled out.

To save you having to check the SMS Gateway is running every time you send an SMS, you can force your phone to run SMS Gateway as a background app. The exact navigation may vary but should go something like this:

In Android Settings > Apps > Installed > SMS Gateway > Permission Management > Run in background, select Keep running in background.
